Hi there!

I'm new, and I'm relocating to your area because that's where my sweetie lives (Awwwh...). He's in Newport News, and I'm looking for some help with the whole moving thang:

1. Um, a job
I am experienced with environmental education, I rock out with kids, I'm a great teacher. I can do anything in that field. I'm also great in the office and can type like a banshee. I am a great worker and really would love to land a great job (or just an alright job with benefits would rule). Can anybody help me with job leads?

2. Cool people
While my boyfriend does have his own peeps, I am looking for amazing friends - girlfriends to hang out with, a group of fun and interesting people. I'm almost 33, but I'm pretty laid back and fun so, it would be great to find more people to hang out with. So, if you can help in that department that would be great as well.

Anything else that will help my move would be awesome. Thanks.

Crossposted everywhere that made sense to me.

Hi. I'm Sam. I'm pr'simple; I like music, movies, photography, video games, books, friends, etc. I grew up in Fairfax, and Prince William County; but have lived most of my life in Florida. I just, more or less, moved back to Salem, VA. I'm staying with some people for a 'trial period'. If I like it enough, I've been asked to stay. So, with that said; I'm looking for some cool people to talk to, become friends with, from the Virginia area. If you think you want something different, try any of the following; FaceBook, MySpace, or even my Last.Fm. Either way, I'm just lookin' for new friends. :]

Hi everyone,
My name is Labellelle (ok, it's an alias but I figure that's ok) and I live in on the peninsula side of Hampton Roads.

I'm on Govenor Kaine's news release list and I received this news release that I thought might be of interest to other Virginians.

And for the record, I don't have any affiliation with www.donorschoose.org ... or the govenor's office :c)
Have a great day!

I'm leaving town and need to sell almost everything I own. My loss, your gain, yadda yadda. We have housewares, kitchenwares, appliances, electrical, art supplies, tools, books, textbooks, clothes, furniture, and much much more. Let me know if you have specific needs and I'll let you know if I have it. This is a household of packrats and scavengers, so we have all manner of stuff for sale.

We'll be at 1104-A W. Marshal St. this Saturday, the 28th from 8am until I give up.

I need this stuff to be gone, so it's all going to go to the best offer/first taker. All prices negotiable. Look for the guy with the colourful hair and/or red bandana.

I'm moving to Virginia Beach in a few months and so I've begun looking at apartments online. However, I haven't been able to really find what I want. Does Virginia Beach not have actual apartments on the beach? The closest thing I've seen are ones that are five miles away. I really would like an apartment on the beach or really close... do I need to look into another town or what?

Thanks for any help!

I got a parking ticket today from the City of Alexandria on the campus of Northern VA Community College. I was sort of half-in-half-out. Does anyone have experience contesting a ticket, and if so, what are my chances? Do they take pictures?

Thanks!

I'm sure you've all seen this type of post before, but:
I'm coming to Virginia Beach for a week or so for work,
I know there's a beach, but what else is there to do?
I like: to eat (vegetarian/organic mainly, as well as sweets), see cool things (zoos, botanical gardens, plants), shop a little (kitchy shops).

I won't have a car, but I'm considering renting one.
I can't decide if I should rent one for the entire week or just for the weekend, and hang around the hotel on Bonney road.

I look forward to your suggestions.

Subject:Astroturf for Sale
Security:Public

Is anyone interested in buying massive quantities of astroturf?

The Richmond Coliseum used to host arena football games, but does so no longer. As such, we have massive quantities of green astroturf we're looking to unload. The rolls of astroturf may have velcro going down the sides, which was used to secure the pieces to each other. These may have white markings on them as you see on any football field. The rubbery backing of the astroturf is probably about half an inch thick. We may have the whole 50 yard field's worth of turf around somewhere, but we definitely have four rolls which I'm guessing are about four feet wide by twenty feet long. If we still have the whole field to get rid of, that would be at least ten rolls, about fifteen feet wide by fifty feet long. I'll check to make sure of size and state next time I go in. Do keep in mind that this astroturf was actually used for real games, and we didn't make it a habit to scrub it clean enough to eat off of. As such, depending on your use, you may want to wash it well before use.

This is all going to go to the best reasonable offer(s). No, you don't have to buy it all, but we'll probably sell by the foot to make it easier. No, we can't deliver it to you, you would have to pick it up at the Coliseum.

Respond here or drop me a line: MJCino@AOL.com

I kind of want to buy it up myself, but I'm not sure what I'd do with it . . . maybe carpet a room with it. I'm curious about what ideas everyone else has.

X-posted around.

******UPDATE******
I looked more closely at the rolls last night. We have four rolls of turf which are about 5-7 feet wide and 15-20 feet long. I still don't know about the rest of the 50 yards of field. These four rolls are probably unmarked. I unrolled one last night to eyeball the measurements and it had no printed marks. There seemed to be a small spill of something on it, but it's probably washable. Poking around online, it looks like comparable astroturf of comparably sized rolls would probably go for at least $500, but we're not looking for anywhere near that much.

I'm new here...I know my user info says I'm in Daytona Beach Fl, I am, BUT I was born and raised in Bassett, VA (it's near Martinsville, in case you don't know of it).  My hubby and I are considering moving back up to the area.  We don't want to move to Bassett, because honestly the job market there is dead.  We're thinking of moving to Roanoke.  I was looking at some apartments online and I was wanting some opinions of people who live in the area about the following listing:

http://www.livingchoices.com/apartment/apartmentdetail.aspx?aptid=108677&refer=yahoo&mid=6800

Please, tell me what you think.  I want to know how the neighborhood is, how the local schools are (we don't have kids yet, but evenually).  If you think that you wouldn't move to this area, please, tell me why and give me a suggestion of where you would move if you were us.

Thanks for all your help!!

Beth
